We’ve been following email marketing gurus Chris Murch and Ron Cates on their emailmarketingradio website. Recently they sent out a snappy email with 3 email marketing tips.
1. Analyzing your email marketing
How are you doing with your email marketing?
After sending out an email campaign, you can track the results by clicking on the email campaign link. A report will show you how many emails you sent, number of spam complaints, open rate, click throughs, and forwards. Here are the “average” numbers to see how you are doing.
Open Rate 18%
Click Throughs 4%
Forwards 1%
You should be getting less than 1 spam complaint for 1000 email addresses sent to.
2. Surveys - Listen to emailmarketingradio.com, May 5th show, Ron Cates and I spent half the show on the does and don’ts of surveys. That show also covered analyzing your email campaigns.
3. Best Practice for Links in your email. Without getting too technical, to prevent your emails from getting caught in spam filters, if you must use a web site address as your link, use the “disable link tracking” option. You are still sending traffic to your site but just not tracking who is clicking through. Or if you wish to track the click throughs which is always a good idea, then use non web site addresses like “Click Here” or “Learn More”.

You must always keep in mind that the success of email marketing is closely tied to the free stud that you give away during the campaign. You can send free articles or free reports to make them realize that they are lucky to be in your list.
