Say YES to YEP

Young Entrepreneurs Project
Spring brings another round of the popular Young Entrepreneurs Project (YEP). The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Center for International Trade Development (CITD) in San Diego has launched the Young Entrepreneurs Project for 2010. And this year, there are two YEP programs. The SBDC YEP is geared toward those individuals interested in learning how to start a business based on their training in career technical education fields such as automotive technology, computer information systems, graphic design, etc., while the CITD YEP continues to provide training for individuals interested in international or online businesses.

The two distinct programs are not the only changes in 2010 YEP. Based on feedback from past YEP participants, one of the biggest perceived hurdles to launching a small business is obtaining the money needed to cover start-up costs and working capital. In response to that, we updated our content to include information on both traditional and non-traditional financing options. These options are available to entrepreneurs in various circumstances. And we are promoting the availability of our professional consulting staff to answer questions regarding business start-up, financing, and business plan development.

Despite these changes, we are keeping all the best parts of YEP. Just like previous years, a business plan competition will also be held for each program. The YEP 2010 prize package includes:

  • 1 Year of Free Small Business Development  Center & Center for International Trade Development Workshop Attendance
  • Business Management Prize Pack
  • Suite of Business Counseling Services
  • Free PR For Your Business
  • Technical assistance with identifying and accessing capital to help launch your business

Additional prizes may be announced at a later date and we encourage participants to check the program websites often for more details. If you would like to participate, visit the YEP websites at http://www.sandiegoyep.com or http://www.yepsd.com and complete an enrollment form to access our online learning system.

Even if you do not wish to take part in YEP 2010, we ask you to share this information with your friends and colleagues who may be interested in our unique training program and business plan competition.
