SBDC and CITD Small Business Advisor Gabriel Reyes brought this small business article to our attention. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, local small businesses can get free “mail-back” recycling kits to help them legally recycle old fluorescent lamps, thanks to the Department of Environmental Health and a federal stimulus grant.
“The County strives to be business friendly and we want to make it easy for businesses to recycle,” said Supervisor Greg Cox. “This is also a good way to people to properly dispose of fluorescent lights and other electronic waste.” Get the details…
It’s fantastic to see that some of that stimulus money is being spent wisely. The fact that these packages are postage paid makes it much more likely that they will actually be used. One way businesses could use these efficiently is to let employees bring in their CFL bulbs from home, too. Those things last a really long time, so it could take quite a while for a company to accumulate enough to fill up a box with 75 bulbs otherwise. If the container is just sitting there for several years waiting for more bulbs, it’s more likely to get lost or accidentally discarded.
